1.1 Background of the Study
Tourism is a critical driver of economic development, contributing to cultural preservation, community development, and national revenue. In Argungu LGA, Kebbi State, renowned for the Argungu Fishing Festival, tourism has the potential to enhance socioeconomic growth. Public Relations (PR) plays a vital role in promoting tourism by creating awareness, enhancing destination appeal, and fostering relationships between stakeholders.
PR strategies such as media campaigns, event promotions, and stakeholder engagement are essential for positioning Argungu as a prime tourist destination. These efforts not only attract domestic and international tourists but also promote local culture and traditions. However, the effectiveness of PR in tourism promotion depends on the alignment of strategies with community values and tourism goals. This study examines the role of PR in promoting tourism in Argungu LGA, focusing on its impact, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the cultural and historical significance of the Argungu Fishing Festival, tourism in Argungu LGA faces challenges such as low visibility, inadequate infrastructure, and inconsistent promotional efforts. While PR has the potential to address these issues, its application in tourism promotion remains underexplored. This study investigates the role and effectiveness of PR in promoting tourism in Argungu LGA and identifies strategies for improvement.
